The Fernandina Beach Pirates Club has completed its restoration of "Peg Leg Pete," the wooden pirate statue downtown.
Peg Leg Pete, carved in 1978 from a 12-foot live oak from Charlton County, Ga., was created by master carver Wayne Ervin during the 1978 Shrimp Festival. He used a chain saw to shape the oak into the wooden statue and then applied finishing touches with a wooden mallet.
