Cottonwood tree knows as "The Lone Tree Station", 1/2 mile east from this point, 18 feet in diameter over 100 years old. Said to be the largest from Omaha to Denver.
Landmark for Pony Express, Oregon, and California Trails, Emigrants overland stage and railroads.
Evidence showed that Sam Bass and his gang, after they held up the Express Train, divided their $60,000.00 and cooked their meal, this took place in 1877.
Known as Lover's Tree, children played under it, hit by lightning 3 times in 1 year. Cut up for firewood 1931-1933.
