Although it is the 11st largest tree in the world and the second largest in Kings Canyon National Park, the Robert E. Lee Tree is often overshadowed by its bigger brother, the General Grant Tree. However, a recent study discovered something very remarkable about this giant: A few more bits of interesting data emerged when one of the largest living Sequoiadendron trees, the Robert E. Lee tree, was studied in detail during July of 2007. This one tree has approximately five times the living leaf biomass of the largest Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) ever measured, and has approximately 2.8 billion living leaves.
