The theologian Reinhold Niebuhr attended Elmhurst College and graduated in 1910. He is immortalized with a statue on campus, which stands in Kranz Forum, east of the Frick Center (address 190 Prospect). It was dedicated on May 19,1997.
Among many other achievements, Niebuhr is the author of the familiar Serenity Prayer:
God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
