Deakins Line Stone #3 (near Mt. Backbone summit) - U.S. Historic Survey Stones and Monuments on Waymarking.com

Placed in 1910 for the re-survey of the Deakins line to confirm the western boundary of Maryland with West Virginia. This same survey determined that the PA-MD-WV tri-corner was a few hundred yards west of where it was thought to be originally. Deakins stone #1, a couple of miles south, is a three-county marker and not on the state line due to the Potomac river source and its westward to eastward path.

(I noticed that this marker is the same height as the tri-corner stone to the north, but larger than #1 and #6 which I visited as well.)
