Fort Toulose was built in 1717 by the French. It was primarily used as a trading post with the Indians by the French. There were never any battles, only a small mutiny that occurred during its lifetime. Fort Jackson was also built very nearby and is in the vicinity of the state park as well. There are also hiking trails, and arboretum and other attractions here. The Tallapoosa and Coosa Rivers come together in a bend that is located very near the historic fort. Today it is a state park and may be self toured.
