A very beautiful and distinct memorial sits out front of this fire station in downtown Moorestown, NJ. A gorgeous, miniature fireman statue adorns the bottom of a bell mounted on brick pedestal right out front. A plaque explains the details.

The bell is from the McShane Bell Foundry of Baltimore, Md, 1892.

The memorial is dedicated to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the community of Moorestown. There are two names on small plaques mounted on the right side of the brick pedestal. The first name is Walter Roberts who died on September 7, 1972 and the other name is Robert J. Ansell who died on August 20, 1989

This fire house is located at 261 West Main Street where it remains today. This is a beautiful but non-contributing building in the middle of the Moorestown Historic District. It was built in 1984 by Moorestown architect Herman Hassinger.

"Incorporated on November 14, 1888, Hose Company No. 1 rented a local hall from former Fire Commissioner Dr. F.G. Stroud and operated what was known as the "Big Old Engine" housed in the engine house located on the school property on West Second Street. In 1893, the Commissioners provided Hose Company No. 1 with a new house built on a lot located at North Washington Street. In 1916, Hose Company No. 1 moved to 215 West Main Street and then to 261 West Main Street where it remains today."

The Department of the Interior was kind enough to send me the following information on this building:
"Orange brick fire station. Central 2-story polygonal tower, first and second floors separated by checkerboard brick spandrels, pyramidal roof with clock and ventilator. Three fire engine stalls to the east, two to the west; deep bracketed cornice, replacement metal roofing. Rear addition. Bell from McShane Bell Foundry of Baltimore, MD, 1892 mounted on brick pedestal in front.
