The oldest parts of the present church are the 3 lady chaple sedilia which are pre 1300 in date.
The church has a connection with the ancestors of George Washington, who paid for the new tower in 1480.
The Washington coat of arms was formerly on the tower but moved inside the church in the 1950's,the coat of arms has 3 mullets and 2 barrs, and resembles the stars and stripes..
A family tree of the Washington family can be seen inside the church.
To celebrate the villages association with the Washingtons the Stars and Stripes is flown every 4th July from the church tower.
