Rydal Hall is an old family home, now used by Carlisle Diocese as a residential centre. The grounds are open to public, with formal gardens laid out by Thomas Mawson.

There is a cafe in Old School room, with campsite for visiting groups.
The front of the hall faces due south and had an impressive view to the lake. Now obscured by mature trees. The front we see nowadays is merely a fascade made of moulded concrete, not carved stone.
