The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation and the Boise Astronomical Society have successfully completed the Bruneau Dunes Public Observatory. The facility is now open for observing every Friday and Saturday night, March through November. A public program begins at dusk, and observing continues as late as people are interested. The facility is also available to be reserved by interested parties. For more information on the weekend public programs or special group reservations contact the park office at (208) 366-7919.
The Observatory houses a 25" Newtonian reflector. A number of portable telescopes are set up outside for public observing, as well. The observatory is supported by dormitory and classroom facility, and the addition of an interpretive center is planned for the near future..
