Gothic-style Bowles Hall was traditionally a men's dormitory with a colorful and proud past. Like the adjacent UC Stadium, it sits atop the Hayward Fault, and was slated for demolition in the mid 1980s. "Bowlesmen" successfully petitioned to place it on the National Register of Historic Places, thus saving it. Currently it admits freshmen only.
