This approximately 25-foot tall sculpture sits at the edge of the Bayer Laboratory campus in West Berkeley. The sculpture features a concrete base with seating. It was sponsored by the Bayer Corporation.
Berkeley-based sculptor Slusky creates abstract sculptures out of metal colorfully painted with auto paints. They range from large (like Helios) to desk sized ones (as can be seen displayed in the Architecture library up at UC Berkeley). Techniques he incorporates include organic-mechanical shapes and multi-layer paint applications with gradual sanding to reveal base layers. He also teaches in the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley.
For more information, see the the sculptor's website.
