The plaque reads:
Combining mobility with concentrated firepower, this weapon was valued for its capability to deliver rapid barrages and then relocate to avoid counter battery fire. A soviet development of the 1950s this piece was produced by China and subsequently acquired by Iraq.
The 19 round launcher is mounted on the rear platform of this NJ 230 (4x4) truck. The rocket type 63 is a high explosive projectile delivering 1,916 fragments lethal out to a 24m (26yds) radius. The fuze is either proximity or J 1 impact with choice of instantaneous or delayed reaction settings.
Multiple rocket launchers like this were characteristically used by Iraq for barrage preparatory to assault, counter battery, and to resist massed (Iranian) infantry assaults. The MRL truck was returned as a war trophy by the 2/17 Field Artillery Regiment during Operation Desert Storm.
