The plaque reads:
China, Iraq
The Type 83 Gun was developed from the Chinese Type 66, which was based on a Soviet D-20 design. The barrel features a single baffle muzzle brake, a separated shield, and the split trail legs each have a hydraulically operated wheel (to assist handling). When emplaced, the carriage rests on a firing platform with the main wheels elevated out of the way.
When traveling, the barrel is swung 18 degrees and clamped over the closed trail legs. The trails are then raised to limber and the piece is ready for high speed towing. Shorter moves can be made without stowing the tube in reverse position. A moderate number of these have been produced, principally for China, by China North Industries Corporation.
