The Art Deco styled Columbia National Guard Armory was constructed by the Works Progress Administration. Construction started in 1938 and completed in 1940. The facility was designed for duel purpose of being an armory and also as a civic center and recreation facility. In 1999 the building was renovated and converted to a full time recreation facility after the National Guard moved to new facilities.

The armory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
