Although it is only a stone's throw (literally) from the popular Stinson Beach, the character of Bolinas Beach is radically different. It's another twenty minutes drive further up the coast and across the Bolinas Lagoon. The crowd is decidedly less "mainstream" as is the town. The lagoon is somewhat sheltered, whereas the point can be windswept and cold. It's not consistently good for sunbathing and not recommended for swimming, but beautiful regardless.
Despite the counter-culture atmosphere in the town, the beach is NOT a nude beach.
Dogs are allowed. No lifeguards on duty. The charming town is nearby with food and dining.
Note: Coordinates are for the lagoon-side access. Parking is difficult or non-existent here, however the downtown is a short walk from here. Some parts of the beach front on private homes.
