One of the largest and best hospitals in the Midwest. First opened in 1898, the hospital moved to its current site and greatly expanded with the opening of the new "general hospital" building with its gothic tower in 1928. Today, the complex encompasses 11 buildings, 3.2 million square feet of space, on 13.8 acres.
U.S.News & World Report has ranked UI Hospitals and Clinics among "America’s Best Hospitals" ever since the rankings began in 1990. In the most recent issue, 11 medical specialties ranked in the top 50 of their respective categories. "Best Doctors in America" database includes over 150 UIHC physicians.
