The following text is from a plaque on an entrance pillar:
The McCormack Mansion was built in 1925 for James McCormack, an Irish immigrant, early Tacoma merchant and owner of McCormack Brothers Department Store. He was Grand Master of the Masons in the state of Washington and laid the cornerstone of the State Capitol. His wife, Elizabeth, was very active in community affairs and became Supreme Queen of the Daughters of the Nile.
From here you see the Italian Renaissance Style home exactly as it was built. Prominent architect Ambrose J. Russell incorporated many interesting Mediterranean details the McCormack's had admired in Italy.
The second owner, Dr. Hugh Larkin, raised ten lively children here yet kept the house in perfect shape. The mansion became the Villa Bed and Breakfast in 1994.
