Thomas Layton was a local photographer who worked from late C19th to early C20th. Here he has captured the approach to Kew Bridge which is immediately on the left. Ahead is the water tower of The Metropolitan Water Board at Brentford. The tree just to the left masks his house which may be the pub that is there now or lost as part of a new development yet to be built. The memorial in the foreground may now be in a local park which I will check out.

In my 2008 picture you will see the tower is still there and is still owned by what is now Thames Water. The site also houses The Steam Museum which is well worth a visit. The houses to the right have gone and replaced by newer houses in the 1970s/80s by the look of them. The chimney in the back of the old photo has been replaced by the tower blocks of The Green Dragon estate.

This junction is very busy and a real nightmare for driving through and yet funnily, looking back at the 1892 photo, it appears even busier.

I wonder how this junction will look in another 106 years?

Year photo was taken: 1892
