The Kentwood Arms Hotel was built in the 1920s by developer John Thomas Woodruff, and is located at 700 E. St. Louis Street. Guests included Harry S. Truman and Groucho Marx. During World War II, it was converted to U.S. Army barracks. Later purchased by the University from downtown commercial real estate magnate, Arch Bay, it was converted into what is known today as Kentwood Hall, a university dormitory. It currently houses 200 students.
