This swinging bridge was originally constructed to carry mill workers who lived in a nearby community across the river so they could work at the Orange Grove Flour Mill. In 1872 the Mill began and I assume soon after the bridge was in use. Since then the Mill caught fire in 1905 and stopped production but the swinging bridge is still in use and is maintained by Patapsco park.
