Davey Allison one of the most popular rivers in the history of NASCAR. Davey is the son of NASCAR Legend Bobby Allison, and the Nephew of Ten time NASCAR Winston Cup Winner Donnie Allison. During his NASCAR Winston Cup Career which stretched from 1985 – 1993, was named 1987 NASCAR Rookie of the Year and won a total of 19 races and finished in the top ten 92 times. In 1988 Bobby Allison won the Daytona 500 with Davey finishing a close second. Bobby has said on a number of occassions that this father-son first and second place finish was the highlight of his racing career. In 1992 Davey piloted his Robert Yates prepared Texaco-Havoline Ford to victory in the Daytona 500, becoming the first father and son to win the Great American Race. Davey’s career tragedically ended in July 12,1993, when he was critically injured in a helicopter crash at the Talladega Superspeedway. A few hours later, on July 13, 1993 he died of his injuries in a Birmingham, Alabama. Davey Allison is buried in the Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama.
