Theatre History
The DeSoto named after Hernando DeSoto, opened August of 1929 and seated 1,500 movie goers. It was owned and operated by the Lam Amusement Company. It was also the first movie theater in the south with sound! Built on the concept of being a "Talkie" it featured a Vitaphone sound system as well as state of the art fire safety equipment.
