According to the NRHP Archive:
The house at 8 State Street is architecturally significant as an intact, representative example of mid-nineteenth century residential architecture in Mount Morris. 8 State Street is one of the best, most intact examples of the Italianate mode in Mount Morris. Notable features of the Italianate style embodied in the house at 8 State Street include cubic massing, a prominent cupola, tripartite, projecting bay windows, and a profusion of decorative woodwork. The significance of the building is enhanced by its substantially intact, late nineteenth century interior features.
Believed to have been built in the 1850s, the house recalls the heyday of Mount Morris during the mid nineteenth century as a bustling canal-side center of commerce and industry along the Genesee Valley Canal. An 1872 map shows that the house was owned by a G. Green. Nothing else is presently known about the builder or occupants of the property during its period of significance.
