This realistic granite suitcase is part of the sculpture "Terminus" which references Tacoma's place as the Western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
It is located in the heart of the University of Washington Tacoma campus. This campus was created using restored turn of the century warehouses that were served by a Northern Pacific rail line that ran through the alley between the buildings. The alley now exists as a pedestrian walkway with the tracks still running beside it as a reminder of the history of the campus. The sculpture Terminus lies in a small courtyard just off of these railroad tracks.
