St.Michael's stands on the site of an earlier chapel of 1621 ,which in turn stood on the site of a Saxon burial ground,many artefacts have been discovered over the years in the churchyard proving that the Vikings were here at one time.
George Fox the Quaker who married Margaret Fell of nearby Swarthmoor hall came and preached here.
The 1840 church though next to the main coast road to Barrow in Furness,is a quiet tranquil place.
