A smaller, more poignant cemetery on the outskirts of town dedicated to the POWs who died in the hospital that once stood on these grounds.

Under the brutal control of their Japanese captors, thousands of Allied POWs died while being forced to help their enemy build a supply railway line across Thailand. At this site during the war there was a hospital for the treatment of POWs suffering from diseases, malnutrition, or just the fatigue of conditions. As they died in the hospital they were laid to rest in a makeshift cemetery beside the hospital building. Their graves were marked with wooden crosses. After the war it was decided to leave the 1,750 graves undisturbed and build a fitting monument to replace the old hospital building. Worth the drive out of town to see.

Open 24/7 although vehicles cannot enter the grounds. There is a caretaker living on the grounds.
