The Homeland Methodist Church, formally the Bethel Methodist Church, was built in 1887. The church served Homeland until the mid 1970's when it was closed. The church was donated to Polk County by Mr. and Mrs. Casey Fletcher and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wilson.
The original Bethel Methodist Church was built in 1878 about three quarters of a mile from this location. It is described as having been a crude building with no lights or windows. The walls were made of rough lumber. This was replaced by the present church.
The existing church was built by Mr. James B. Crum. The church is unique for a country church because it has stained glass windows. The original steeple was built of wood and was destroyed by a hurricane in 1946. The new steeple is made of aluminum. The church was moved from its original location in 1986.
