Auschwitz- Birkenau was the largest German Nazi Concentration and extermination camp and was established in 1940.
It was built in German-occupied southern Poland, and consists of three camps, two of the three the location for the deaths of between 1,100,00 and 1,500,000 people from 1940 to 1945.
Auschwitz I was the original camp where approximately 70,000 people, mostly Poles and Soviet Prisoners of war died.
Aushwitz I- Birkenau was much larger where at least 960,000. Jews, 75,000 Poles and 19,000 people from other groups were exterminated.
The Holocaust Education Trust educates young people from all backgrounds about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned today.
