American comedian and actor Paul Lynde is best known for his role on the television show Bewitched, and his frequent occupation of the center square on the game show Hollywood Squares.

Paul Lynde was born June 13, 1926 in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He eventually graduated from Northwestern University in 1948 and moved to New York City to work as a stand-up comedian.

In the 1950's and early 1960's he made many appearance on Broadway. His best known Broadway role was as "Mr. MacAfee," the father, in "Bye Bye Birdie." A few years later he made an appearance on the TV show "Bewitched" and was soon asked to star in a recurring role as "Uncle Arthur." In addition Lynde made several appearances on "I Dream of Jeanie," "The Munsters," "The Perry Como Show," "Dean Martin Presents the Golddiggers," among others. He also was involved with several movies throughout his career.

Lynde is perhaps best known for his long standing role in the center square on "Hollywood Squares." He is known for his witty remarks, and often entertaining answers.

Lynde passed away on January 11, 1982 of a heart attack at his Beverly Hills home. He was buried in Amity Cemetery, just north of his hometown in Ohio. He is buried beside his brother Johnny and long-time companion Bing Davidson.
