Thea's Park, named for mariner Thea Foss, is located along Tacoma's Commencement Bay. Picnic, swim, kayak, or just sit and watch the ships, sea lions, and kayaks float past.
The park is located on reclaimed industrial area and sits sandwiched between the BNSF Railroad's mainline, a massive grain terminal, and Commencement Bay. It's a beautiful spot to kick back and watch the trains and ships. Skateboarders love all the benches that the city reworked so they would be skater friendly (granite edging added in spots). At the end there is a 9/11 memorial with a 100 foot flag pole and a huge sculptural globe surrounded by a compass rose. Near that is a great peace pole with the message "May peace prevail on Earth" written on it in 12 different languages. These are the 12 languages spoken in Tacoma's 10 sister cities.
