In 1961 the Chapel of the Archangel Michael was moved from the village of Lelicozero to the Island of Kizhi and restored to become part of the Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography.
Small churches constructed in this log cabin style were common in 18th century northern Russia. The church has several rooms, a small onion shaped dome, and an octagonal tent-roofed belfry. Many of the original icons are still in the church.
The church has been placed on the island in the Zaonezhve Village complex, a short walk south of the big churches in the Kizhi Pogost. This is a collection of wooden structures moved the Island from several location in Karelia.
