A 'rammed' earth church started in 1838 and opened in 1842 in Shanty Bay, Ontario.

This is one of a very few buildings built of "rammed" earth that remain standing. The technique involved mixing wet clay with straw, pressing it into forms and then covering it with a protective plaster coating.
The church cornerstone was laid in 1838 and the building mostly completed in 1841. However, the formal dedication was February 27, 1842.
The church is still home to an active congregation with two services each Sunday morning. The structure is an Ontario Historical site.
