Not your usual granite outdoor monument surrounded by flowers and marked with the Flag flying from a tall pole, this monument speaks eloquently of the impact of the World War, as it was know then, on the people of Atascosa County.
It is a plaque with the words:
In honor of those who
served in the World War
and
in memory of those who
made the supreme sacrificeflanked by two banners, one with the word Liberty, the other with the word, Justice
It hangs on the wall on the first floor of the courthouse, placed so that anyone entering through the front doors and walking to the center of the building will see it.
Closeup of the banner.
Date is estimated as none appears on the plaque, and a search of online sources listing the plaque do not state the date. If a visitor discovers the date, please post it in the log.
