"Henry Rengstorff once owned docks that were located on the present location of Shoreline Park. The docks were an essential park of Mountain View history. Before the train came to town they were the quickest and easiest way to ship goods to and from Mountain View via the San Francisco Bay. During the docks' heyday, Mountain View's agriculture was based on vineyards, wheat, and hay.
Even after the train came to Mountain View, the docks were still used because they were less expensive. Eventually the docks were abandoned, and are now long gone. Salt Ponds now block ship access between Mountain View and the bay. But plans are underway to make Mountain View/Moffett Field a new public ferryboat stop in the near future.
The docks helped to make Henry Rengstorff quite rich. With his newly acquired wealth he built the Rengstorff Mansion. The family lived in the mansion for decades, but eventually left the area. The mansion then went through a variety of owners. It enjoyed many years of use, but as time marched on the house began to grow old and ugly. Residents of the house began to speak of mysterious, even supernatural happenings in the house. It was eventually abandoned."
