Little is known about the petroglypths of Panama and little has been done to protect them. There are numerous sites on private land and the landowners are, in my experience, happy to let you explore the sites. These particular glypths are incised on basalt boulders and were probably done about 1000 years ago by the CARIB indians. The rocks are covered by lichen and close study is neccessary to see the designs not outlined, but that adds to the fun. Most believe the designs represent some type of calendar. See (
