What is now Jefferson Station was once part of Thomasville Furniture Industries 15 acre Complex which was the main employer in this small mountain town of West Jefferson. This was closed in 2000. This facility accounted for approximately one fifth of the downtown area.
This original plant had over 40 buildings in its complex. Today some of these buildings house industrial businesses as well as a $9 million project that has created new housing, construction jobs and additional retail spaces to this Ashe County town, population 1500.
Jefferson Station continues a trend started years ago by the artists who migrated to the town and opened galleries, shops and studios.
Jefferson Station now boasts an indoor mall as well as a residential condominium complex
