This Station was built primarily to serve the logging industry of Cowichan Lake but passenger service was provided too until 1926. The first train arrived on June 18th, 1913 and the station was continuously operated until 1975. By then, highway access to the area along with increased movement of logs by trucks made the railway line redundant and the Station along with the rail line were removed from service.
In 1977, the CPR donated the station to the Village of Cowichan Lake. The building was moved and turned 180 degrees to sit as it is now. The station was renovated with the help of grants and volunteer labour to house the Kaatza Station Museum and Archives. It was opened in 1983. A modest fee of $2 is charged to view the collection and find out about the history of the area.
