This artillery trench, located in Mount Eagle Park near the Huntington Metro station, is nearly all that remains of Fort Lyon and its associated earthworks. Normally unarmed and unmanned, the trench connected Fort Lyon with nearby Fort Farnsworth, of which nothing remains. Today, the work is still clearly visible although overgrown with pine trees and lower vegetation. Best viewed in winter, especially after rain or snow when the trench itself fills with water. In this condition, the path of the trench is clearly distinguished, as are the parapet and gun platforms.

The site is accessible from the Huntington Metro south parking lot. No charge for parking on weekends and Federal holidays.
