New Hope Missionary Baptist Church was formed in 1860 and the cemetery was started around the same time. The property was originally part of a plantation which was deeded to the church in 1873. The church became the main black church for Lake Village following the Civil War and the cemetery was the main black cemetery for the town. The cemetery has several hundred graves most of which are unmarked.
