In 1988, Richard Cameron, the surviving brother of the family which owned the property, died and left the property to Cape May County with the provision that it be preserved in its natural state.

Located in Cape May County, this wildlife preserve is simply beautiful, thanks in part to the efforts made by local Eagle Scouts. When you are finished admiring this scout's handiwork, walk down the path and inside the park to be dazzled by the dozens of interpretive duck displays scattered throughout the preserve. They are colorful and informative and offer great insight into the many species of duck we see everyday. There are swinging benches, fish-laden lakes and ponds and well defined, hard-packed trails for your enjoyment. If this were a geocache, the terrain would be rated a 1. I would definitely recommend this waymark, as well as the other waymarks and geocaches for children.

The park is open daily from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. There is a field office about 400 feet from the parking lot should you have questions or needs. I have included a picture of a very nice sign which explains in great detail the entire history of the Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary. Rather than recopy the entire text, it is left to the readers discretion to "read" the picture.

On this SITE, I found this text which I thought would be nice to use as an additional and more eloquent description of the sanctuary:
"The Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful place that appeals to both avid wildlife watchers and families. Although relatively small, the park encompasses a variety of habitats including deciduous woodland, lakes and wetlands, crossed by easy, dirt and paved walking trails. White-tailed deer wander throughout the park. You can have close encounters with a variety of wildlife. Egrets roost over the lakes, and warblers and kinglets flit through the pine trees at the water’s edge. The ease of nature viewing makes any time spent at Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary time well spent."

One last note, there is a white-tailed deer herd which roams the grounds as well as a peacock or two which were transplanted here from the county zoo.
