Home of the Visalia Community Players, the old California Ice House, constructed in 1920, had been empty and owned by the City of Visalia in 1976 when they offered it to the theater group to be used as their new home for community productions. According to their website,

"The basis of community theatre is that it is open to all. It is a place for community members to come together and perform for the entertainment of the community."

The theater normally puts on 6-7 productions each year. Performances are Thursday-Saturday evenings and a Sunday matinee. The cost of tickets is very reasonable (has been $10), the productions are entertaining and the abmiance at this theater is comfortable and friendly. The theater is entirely staffed and managed by volunteers from the community. Auditions are open to the public.

All proof that good things do happen in small cities, too.
