Rosa Parks is known for starting the Mongomery Bus Boycott by refusing to give up her seat on the bus. She spent most of her adult life in Detroit.
Everyone knows the things they were taught in school. My personal memory of Rosa Parks comes from growing up in the Detroit Metro area. When her health was good, she was an active member of the community. Rosa Parks Boulevard was named for her while I was working in the General Motors Building. As an elderly woman, she was mugged right outside her home. Our, then, mayor, Dennis Archer, got her into a riverfront apartment, where she lived until she died. When she died, dignitaries came from all over to honor her. When she died, she was laid in honor on the capitol rotundra.
I couldn't begin to list her accomplishments, but please see wikipedia article in the following link to see what a wonderful woman she was, and why she made an impact on so many lives.
