Situated on the shores of beautiful Lake Jackson, in Sebring Florida, Highlands Museum of the Arts is part of the Alan Altvater Cultural Center. Just steps from the Sebring Pier and Rotary Park, the museum is next to Highlands Little Theater and behind the Sebring Library. Completing the complex are the Sebring Civic Center, Sebring Historical Society and Sebring Garden Club.
The museum is owned and operated by Highlands Art League, Inc., a 501c-3 non-profit corporation. Founded by a small but dedicated group of citizens led and inspired by Aronette Schneck, the league opened the doors to its first museum in 1967 at the old Elks Club building on Center Avenue. After a move to a two-story house for several years, the league built its present lakeside location in 1986.
