The Saviour-Transfiguration Cathedral in Rybinsk was built to a design which Avraam Melnikov had submitted for Saint Isaac's Cathedral in St Petersburg. But Melnikov lost the contest for the plan of St Isaac's whereupon he sold his grandiose design to the municipal authorities of Rybinsk. The cathedral is neoclassical style with a large central dome supported by columns and four smaller domes. A tall tiered bell tower has four clock faces near the top. The Cathedral was constructed 1838-1851.
