This restored fort stands at the edge of a cliff at the north edge of St. George's Island. The fort is surrounded by a (dry) moat and entered through a drawbridge. The original fort dates back to 1612, and has been rebuilt and enlarged several times up until the late 1800's.
Interestingly, here you can find replicas of the British Crown Jewels on display, as well as cannons, muskets and other period weapons. There are also audio-visual presentations of the area's history.
The fort was used by the British Army and also to train local forces during World War I & II.
