Terezin Small Fortress - WWII Prisoner of War Camps on Waymarking.com

Terezin was built in 18th century as a fortified military town. After occupation of Czechoslovakia, the Small Fortress became a police prison operated by Gestapo. Later, the local residents has been moved out of town and the whole town has been used as a concentration camp for Czech Jews. Between 1941 and 1945, more than 140 000 prisoners have been brought here. Over 35000 of them died in Terezin and more than 87000 have been deported to other concentration camps, mostly Auschwitz-Birkenau, where only few survived.
