This bell is located in a very nice little park in front of the old train depot in Cornelia, Georgia. Although there is no signage at the bell I can only assume that is was used by the railroad to summon passengers. This location was at one time the center of all things in this small town so perhaps it was used for other purposes such as meetings, fire warning, or other things. The park surrounding this bell includes a nice 911 memorial, two old train cabooses, a very nice railroad museum, a big red apple statue, and a monument, a time capsule and monument commemorating a visit in 1992 by President H.W. Bush. Indeed this place deserves your visit if you are in the area.
