Coleman Young was the Mayor of Detroit from 1973 to 1993, serving as Mayor for 20 years. He was born in Alabama, and served the Second World War as a Tuskegee Airman. He died in 1997, and the City county Building was renamed to the Coleman A. Young municipal center in his honor.
