This historic sign marks the site of tavern operated by John Piper in 1793. The Indian Reservation lands were sold at public sale in 1802. Josiah Smith ran traven until 1855.

This historic site (and the sign) is about 8 feet off of the southeast intersection of Jackson and Atsion Roads. You will see a set of blinking red lights when you arrive. There are two historic markers on either side (the other is on the southwest side) of each other, this one and the Dellett marker.

The Indian Mills Historical Society has been collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of Shamong Township with its people for more than 34 years. There website can be found by clicking HERE
